I wont make you wait until the very end to tell you that YES, they are worth the money. I was skeptical at first but after a few play dates with some baby friends where they had the toys – I was sold. Not only did the babies all love playing with those specific toys, they are very well made. I went home and did some research before breaching the topic with my husband. I knew the price would seem like a lot at first but its actually very reasonable for what it is. Here are some of the reasons I love them so much:
- They are all based on what a baby is learning at any specific time. They are toys, yes, but are fundamentally based on physiologic research into what a child developing brain is working on at any specific time. For example, in the play kit for ages 10-11 months (The Thinker Play Kit) there is a pincer puzzle which as it sounds, works specifically on their pincer grasp. This is a fine motor skill that babies develop sometime after 9+ months. Not only did my little one love this toy, used it all day every day for a long time, she also did get much better at using her pincer grasp. At first she would either tip it over to get the puzzle piece out, or she would use her full hand to grasp the outside of the toy and pull. But slowly by slowly she developed a very strong pincer grasp. It is fascinating to see these milestones develop before your eyes!
- They are very well made. The toys are all made from durable, sustainable and organic materials. Simply put, they are made to last. Not only have none of them been broken, but every time someone new comes over they take a look and say “wow, these are really well made toys”. It’s actually gotten a little funny when someone makes the comment since it’s happened more than a couple times. We also noticed that the paint doesn’t chip. This is an impressive feat when babies are teething and chewing on EVERYTHING.
- They look nice. Now, hear me out, not all toys are made equally nice looking. In fact, so many baby and kids toys are very colourful, plastic, and just… not the prettiest. This is NOT me judging these toys, we have a ton of them in our house and my little one likes them too! However theres something about having some nice looking toys out on the shelves that makes a play space look put together. Its a small pro but a pro nonetheless.
- They take all the thought over what toys to get next. Instead of spending time researching, looking at the next months milestones and what toys would be appropriate, it does it all for you. You may see a lot of moms talking about toy rotations and this is an easy way to know when. We rotate the toys outs every two play kits. That essentially means every 4-6 months we swap the toys out. Ive actually saved the older play kits for when baby #2 is here (VERY soon) so that she can have the fun of opening the boxes and seeing the new toys.
- It is a really fun day when the play kits arrive. My daughter loves opening the boxes and seeing all of the new toys.
- The price per toy is actually very fair. When you are looking at big box stores at their toys, they range anywhere from $10-15 for small toys, all the way to $50-75 for the larger toys. Each box is slightly different in price but are around $80 – $100 USD (which makes it approx. $105- 130 Canadian). Each box has 7-9 toys in each box meaning that each toy is approximately $15 Canadian. Considering some of the toys are quite large and made of wood, that’s really fair. Sure you can probably find cheaper toys elsewhere, or used toys online (we are huge fans of doing this) but if you’re looking to purchase new, well made, developmentally thought out toys then these are for you (and your little ones)!
I’m sure I could go on and on about all of the positives about this company but that’s all I have for right now. We do have an affiliate link if you’d like to purchase (you can cancel your subscription at any time, you are not locked in) but i can assure you we would not promote any items we didn’t actually believe in. I purchased these boxes for a year before we reached out and looked into becoming an affiliate. Click the link HERE to check out all the cool toys in the play kits!
I will add that because of their durability, their resale value is actually very high. You can find them selling, used, for approximately $75-100 Canadian. So if you are on the fence, that may help sway the decision that you can sell them for a significant amount of your money back after your little one is done playing with them!
As always, feel free to comment and ask us any questions! We hope you enjoyed reading why we love these toys.
